The Loop & Swap

This past weekend was a long weekend in Canada…. it was Victoria Day. We drove to Kamloops and spent the weekend there. Neil, my bf, has a couple of friends who live there so we were able to stay with them. They have two kids…. Kayla and Austin, who seemed to be fascinated with Lukas… our little son.

We also went to Shuswap Lake. Neil’s friends parents have a house there, so we spent Saturday night on the Shuswap. It’s so nice there! The houses are cheap. A lot cheaper than here in the lower mainland.

The only bad part of the whole trip was seeing the devastation that Mountain Pine Beetle has created. There are so many dead trees…. it’s really a serious problem. When we were first driving into town we could see all the trees that had turned a red/orange colour… my first thought was that they must be affected by the beetle…. and sure enough. It’s quite sad.

We are thinking of possibly moving to Kamloops in the future. The real estate prices are far cheaper than anything you could find here in Vancouver. Maybe one day I will actually have the pleasure of owning my own home!

Only In America?

Why does this not surprise me?

A ten month old baby now has a firearm ownership identification card and a big old gun to go along with it. And the parents and grand parents think it’s “cute.”  What the fuck is this world coming to?

Recycle Me This…

In this day and age with “global warming” and the state of the environment…. you would think that our community would support recycling. Well not the City of Port Coquitlam.

We live in a townhouse complex that has absolutely no recycling program. I called City Hall’s Engineering and Operations Department to find out about getting a recycling container for our unit. The lady that lives next door to us has one that she leaves outside her unit, so I figured that it wouldn’t be a problem. Occasionally I put some newspapers in her container… but I don’t want to keep using hers as once they are full thats it… the city will not take any extra… so I don’t want to fill her container up.. that just wouldn’t be fair to her. City Hall informed me that they do not supply containers and pick up from most townhouses. I told them that one of the tenants in another unit has a bin and gets hers picked up every week… so they told me to talk to the landlord. But they also informed me that I would most likely not be able to get one. When I called the landlord he told me that he does not know how she got her container but would call to see if he could get a container for us. I have not heard back from him… so I am assuming it didn’t go over to well.

I don’t understand. Wouldn’t the City of Port Coquitlam want the residents to recycle? Do they not give a shit about the environment? Would they rather I throw all of my garbage into our dumpster? I can’t believe that I am having such a problem trying to get a recycling container and pick up service where the service already exists…. I have even offered to pay for one and still no luck. This goes to show that much more awareness is needed when it comes to protecting our planet.

What I Would Give To Get That Day Back..

Have you ever wanted to have a day back?  You know… it could have been a really good day, one that you would like to have the pleasure of experiencing all over again… or maybe something really bad happened and you would like to be able to go back and avoid the whole thing so that now your life would be a just a little easier.  What a wonderful world it would be if that were possible.

A few months ago I found out that I am being sued.  A small motor vehicle accident that occurred at a whole whopping 5 kilometers per hour rate of speed (possibly even less than that, as we were pretty much at a stand still… stuck in traffic)… has now turned into this massive trumped up, over rated accident in which the other people are now claiming personal injuries against me.   I have now found out that I am going to need a lawyer… one in which I cannot afford… especially after just having a baby.  I spoke with a lawyer today who gave me his rate of $300 per hour.  $300 per hour!  You know two hours would almost eat up a whole two weeks payment of my maternity leave.  I have a feeling that I am about to get completely screwed… and not in a good way!

If anyone knows of a decent lawyer in the Vancouver area… who might give a not so well off girl a break… let me know!

Gross Glorification…

After the shooting deaths at Virginia Tech. the media has only helped to glorify the gunman. Playing that psychotic tape over and over again. Don’t they realize that is precisely what he wanted them to do? That was the reason why he sent it to them in the first place… so that his face and his words would be smeared all over the television. I am sick of seeing it, I’m sick of hearing his voice and his irrational way of thinking. I heard today on the local news here in Vancouver that NBC was pulling the video and refusing to play it anymore. Bravo to them…. but for the families and students it might have been just a little too soon for it to be aired and now a little too late.

Go Canucks…

I don’t usually write a post about the Canucks in fear that I might jinx them… but I had to post this pic, because it is just too cute. He actually watches parts of the games too!  Personally I think it’s the dark uniforms on a white background that catches his attention… and the cheering crowd… but hey, maybe at two months old… he has realized that hockey rules.  It’s possible… isn’t it?  :D

The playoffs are in full swing and I am hoping that Vancouver will take out Dallas tonight. I have really gotten into the playoff’s this year. Don’t get me wrong… I have always been a Canucks fan… but I have been watching all the other teams games as well. While watching a Pittsburgh/Ottawa game the other night I heard the commentator say something about how Pittsburgh had limited the sale of tickets to the game to only the surrounding areas of Pittsburgh in the attempt to rule out any Ottawa fans that may try to get tickets. How the hell is that possible? I didn’t think they could do that… but I guess they can. I have nothing against Pittsburgh or the Penguins but that seems a little “unsportsmanlike” if you ask me.

GO CANUCKS GO!!
