The Kurt Cobain Murder

With the 16th anniversary of the death of Kurt Cobain coming up on April 5th I thought I would write a post on the subject…..

Having been a fan of Nirvana since the early 90’s, the question of Kurt Cobain’s death, whether you believe suicide or murder, has always been something that I have thought about over the years. I had always thought that he had never just committed suicide, that something more had happened. I also did not necessarily just assume that Courtney Love had killed him… but I had always thought that she had something to do with his death.

In September 2009 I went to Seattle, Washington with my sister.  we went to a Pearl Jam concert just outside of Portland, Oregon and then headed to Seattle the following day to walk around the city and see the “sights”.   We also traveled to the area of Madrona, Seattle to try to find Viretta Park. Viretta park is located right beside Kurt Cobain’s former house, where his death took place. It also acts an “unofficial” memorial to Kurt with the park benches decorated with notes from fans who leave flowers and other mementos behind.  There are reports that Kurt used to frequent the park and there is a report from one of Kurt’s neighbours that she saw Kurt in the park, sitting on the park bench on the morning of April 3rd, just hours or days before his death (depending on when you believe Kurt actually died). We never did end up finding Viretta Park during that Sept 09′ trip, as the area is a little confusing and without actually researching the area and getting directions, it was difficult to find.  In march of 2010 I had a trip to Seattle already planned.  I was heading there for a Matthew Good concert and figured I would do some online research of Viretta Park and surrounding the area and planned on finding the park and Kurt’s house.  I printed off maps & directions and was looking forward to paying Kurt a visit. I also did a lot of research on his death. I came across investigator Tom Grant’s website cobaincase.com Tom Grant is a private investigator who Courtney Love hired in the last few days of Kurt’s life to track down her supposed ” heroin junkie husband who was on a suicidal rampage and who had just bought a gun”.

Anyone wondering what happened to Kurt Cobain, Nirvana fans, people interested in crimes that have not been properly investigated by police or just anyone who wants to hear the truth about events that took place in the last few months of Kurt’s life should visit Tom Grant’s site and read the facts that he has uncovered.

Traveling to Seattle after reading the details of Tom Grant’s investigation, visiting Viretta Park and the house at 171 lake Washington Blvd east really put things into perspective for me.  As I drove through the outskirts of Seattle towards the area of Madrona, I tried to imagine what the park would be like.  I had wondered for days.  Was it heavily wooded?  Would I run into anyone there?  Would I be freaked out going there?  As I followed my directions I eventually ended up at 39th Ave East and East John Street, the entrance to Viretta Park, I was about to find out.  I parked my car at the side of the road and started to walk towards the park entrance.  As you enter the park (at the upper portion) it appears as if you are about to trespass onto some wealthy persons front lawn.  The Starbucks chairman Howard Schultz used to live at the house at the top of Viretta Park.   Off to the left of the Schultz driveway is a staircase, a very steep staircase, that heads down into the lower portion of Viretta Park.  As you travel down the steep staircase and look off to your left, there is Kurt’s former house and the area in which the greenhouse used to stand, where Kurt’s body was found on the morning of April 8th, 1994.  Courtney Love had the greenhouse torn down after Kurt’s death.  Once at the bottom of the stairs, the park opens up a bit and there, to the left, is Kurt’s bench.  While I was at the park there was also another Nirvana fan there, writing a message to Kurt on the bench and leaving some flowers and a drawing for him.  I spoke to him briefly, he was from Japan.  He had me take a few photos of him and Kurt’s bench with his camera and asked if he could take a picture of me, so that he could remember another fan who he met there.  It was nice to meet another Nirvana fan there.

At first, walking up to the bench, seeing all the messages left for Kurt on the bench, having read all the details on http://www.cobaincase.com on the events that took place within the last few months of Kurt’s life… it all just kind of hit me.  It was really sad.  I felt sad and felt that this was so unfair, for Kurt.  I shed a few tears while at the park and really wanted to find out more about what to do to try to get this case reopened.

A month before Kurt Cobain died, he suffered from an overdose in Rome.  After reading the facts that Tom Grant provides at cobaincase.com, there is no doubt in my mind that Kurt’s “Rome Incident” was 100% a murder attempt on him by Courtney Love and Michael “Cali” DeWitt, Courtney’s long time friend and live in nanny.  Courtney Love has planted so many stories in the press, has put Kurt in such a negative light, during his life and after his death, making his drug usage out to be more than what it actually was.  She was the junkie in the relationship.  She was the one who was telling the press that Kurt was a junkie and trying to drag his name through the mud, attempting to make him seem like a suicidal junkie.  There are many reports of people who knew Kurt and other musicians who toured with Nirvana that said that in the last year of his life Kurt was clean and was happy.  He planned on leaving Courtney love, who was cheating on him with Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins.  Kurt was having a lawyer draw up a new will, excluding Courtney form it and was planning on leaving the music business.  Courtney Love had motive to have Kurt killed.   It’s like she had his death planned for months.

Something needs to be done to reopen this case.  The Seattle Police Department started investigating Kurt’s death as a suicide right from the start, because that is what it “appeared” to be.  Courtney Love was friends with one of the detective’s assigned to the case, along with the medical examiner.  The police basically took whatever Courtney had to say about Kurt’s death and believed every word without giving his death a proper investigation.  Just because something looks a certain way, doesn’t mean it necessarily is that way.   Courtney Love planted a false missing person’s report on Kurt, claiming to be Kurt’s mother and claiming that Kurt was on heroin, had a gun and was suicidal.  It was Courtney that planted the idea that Kurt was suicidal in the minds of the police.  She then hired private investigator Tom Grant to help “find her missing suicidal husband” but then did everything in her power to prevent Mr. Grant from actually finding out where Kurt was.

There have been a few websites that have been created to spread the word on what actually happened in March and April of 1994 and to try to get this case reopened.  I really wish I would have researched Kurt’s death a long time ago.  A lot of information has been lost, websites shut down, articles that are hard to find.  But there are still a few sites out there with a ton of information from people who are dedicated to bringing some justice to Kurt Cobain.

To find out more information on the circumstances surrounding Kurt’s death, you can visit the following sites……..

Private Investigators Tom Grant’s site  cobaincase.com

Justice For Kurt site  www.justiceforkurt.com

The Death of Kurt Cobain

Frances Barnett’s      In Defence of Kurt Cobain this is one of the websites that has since shut down but a lot of information from the site was archived at  “The Death of Kurt Cobain” website

You may think “who Cares”.  This death happened 16 years ago…. get over it.  BUT Kurt’s death was not properly investigated.  There is so much information and facts that investigator Tom Grant has uncovered that shows that Kurt’s death was something more than just a suicide.  Everyone deserves justice.   If something like this happened to you or one of your family member or friends, I am sure you would want the police department to do a proper investigation and to rule out all possibilities before making a ruling.  The Seattle Police Department DID NOT do this in Kurt’s case.  At the very least this case needs to be reopened and Kurt’s death declared as “Undetermined”.

So what can we do?  Well that might just be the hard part.  We have a police department who has dealt with this very high profile death, who made assumptions on what had taken place and now probably doesn’t want to admit they were wrong.  The best thing we can do is to write to the Interim Chief John Diaz at the Seattle Police Department and ask for them to reopen this case.  Please send letters to….

AND

You can also bring awareness to this case by reviewing the facts and information on Tom Grant’s website www.cobaincase.com and telling friends, family, co-workers or anyone about the events of this case and how badly this case was investigated.  Hopefully one day Kurt will finally receive the justice that he deserves.

This April 5th (the date that the coroner placed Kurt’s death) I am heading to Viretta Park to pay a visit to Kurt.  I know that in the past years fans have gone to the park on April 5th for a memorial for Kurt.  I have searched the internet, trying to find information on any type of meeting happening this year but can’t find any information on anything.

SO… if you have any info on a time that people will be  meeting up..please leave a comment and let me know.  I am heading to the park on April 5th regardless if anyone else is planning on attending… so I will be there… somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2pm.  If your in Seattle and a fan of Kurt and would like to stop by Viretta Park on April 5th for a memorial to Kurt…. I would love to meet up with you  🙂

Crackdown on Crime?

Today I received a ‘leaflet’ in the mail from my local MP, James Moore regarding which political party is on the right track when it comes to crime in this country. The main point of the leaflet is “Age Is No Excuse.” That just because an offender of a crime is a youth, they should be treated no less than an adult (depending on the severity of the crime… of course.) The point of this leaflet was to choose a political party member who you thought was “on the right track” at combating crime. I was seriously baffled at the notion of having to decide which political party leader was ‘on the right track’….. but here were the options…..

  • Stephane Dion
  • Stephen Harper
  • Jack Layton
  • Elizabeth May

I personally wondered where the “NONE OF THE ABOVE” check box was and quickly realized that there was not one and decided to write Mr. James Moore a letter, letting him in on my view of the Criminal Justice System in this country. The following was sent to his office….

July 25, 2008

Re: “Above the Law” leaflet

To James Moore, MP

Your office recently mailed out a leaflet entitled “Above the Law” asking the citizens of Port Moody, Westwood and Port Coquitlam a question regarding the Criminal Justice System in this country. Your leaflet asked “Who do you think is on the right track on crime?” Well, Mr. Moore, my answer would have to be none of the above. The criminal Justice System in this country is a complete joke. Not only for the light sentences of youth AND adult offenders but for failing the victims of crime as well.

First of all we have our Attorney General, Wally Oppal who seems to come up with excuse after excuse regarding the way that criminals in this country are sentenced. I have contacted him on several occasions regarding the dragging death of Grant De Patie and the reduced sentence of youth offender Darnel Pratt. Now we find out that Mr. Pratt seems to be in some more trouble after assaulting another inmate while incarcerated. The reduction of his sentence now in hind sight seems rather wrong, don’t you think?

I also contacted Mr. Oppal in regards to the Oak Bay murder / suicide involving Mr. Peter Lee. Mr. Lee had assaulted his wife prior to the murders and was arrested for causing bodily harm and aggravated assault. Police made recommendations to the court that he remain in custody. Instead Mr. Lee was released on bail with numerous court orders not to contact his wife, enter the home, or posses any weapons. But did that protect Ms. Park and her family? No. Now every politician, judge and police officer in this country should carry that family’s blood on their hands for not ensuring their safety and for not making the laws around sentencing these offenders more strict.

And lastly ( I could go on, but I will not take up any more of your time) I would like to mention Mayor Scott Young. I am a resident of Port Coquitlam. I grew up in this town and have lived here for the majority of my life. I am also a victim of domestic violence and assault. I do not appreciate the fact that the Mayor of my hometown has been charged and convicted of assault and continues to remain Mayor of this city. I do not appreciate his pompous attitude regarding the matter either. That right there shows you just how screwed up this system is.

I was beaten by my now ex-boyfriend. He gave me two black eyes, choked me, held me against my will for over an hour while confining me and threatening to kill me. After fleeing the scene he was found by police, appeared before a judge and was released on bail with numerous court orders not to contact myself or my family. While awaiting trial he breached those conditions on numerous occasions to the point where I had to have my phone number changed. Each time he breached those conditions I called the RCMP officer in charge of my file to inform him of what was going on and every time I would have to leave a voicemail because he was never available to speak to me in person. By the time the date of the trial came my ex decided to play it safe and accept a plea bargain. He pled guilty and in return the crown sentenced him to a few days in jail. At that time my ex had an extremely lengthy criminal record. He is a career criminal. His mother has informed me that to this day he is still in and out of jail on a regular basis. And you want to know why this is? Because every single time he commits a crime in this country all he gets is a slap on the wrist, released on bail, court conditions that he can breach because he knows he can get away with it, and a minor sentence EVERY SINGLE TIME. And now I have a Mayor that is convicted of assault and I am expected to take him seriously? Please!

There is a lot that needs to be done about the Criminal Justice System in this country Mr. Moore regardless of the offenders age and I believe those changes can not come soon enough. All the offenders mentioned above, regardless if they are a youth offender or an adult seem to think that they are “Above the Law.” As for if any of the candidates mentioned on your leaflet are on the right track against crime in this country? I guess only time will tell.

I thank you for your time.

Thats my take on the system…….

A Dumpsterless Vancouver?

Posted in Crime, Environment, Health, Home, Life, Observations, Politics, Ramblings, Random Thoughts, Rants, World on November 30, 2007 by taraden

There has been talk in Vancouver lately about removing the dumpsters that line the city’s alleyway’s in an attempt to beautify and clean up the city. Local businesses are on board with the idea claiming it would create a crime free environment. The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association found that the majority of dumpsters in Vancouver were vandalized, filthy and filled with needles.

Hmmm… lets think about that for a moment. Don’t you think the City of Vancouver has far more pressing issues to be dealing with right now than the removal of dumpsters from the alleyway’s? How about the situation of the Downtown Eastside and the people who inhabit that area on a daily basis? What will happen to them? Where does the DVBIA think all these needles will end up? Will they just disappear? I think not. Take a browse at Matthew Good’s view of the area… a area in which he lives. People suffering from mental illnesses, unable to “legally” treat their illness and forced out on the street to fend for themselves. What will happen to the people who rely on these dumpsters to earn a living and find a meal. As “gross” as that may sound to some… that is reality. I am sure that Mr Sam Sullivan has more important things to be thinking about… and if you ask him…. he would probably end up saying…. ummm “The Olympics”?

Oust Mayor Scott Young

Posted in Court System, Crime, Home, Life, Politics, Random Thoughts, Rants on May 27, 2007 by taraden

Yesterday I attended a petition signing to oust the Mayor of Port Coquitlam…… Scott Young. The mayor was recently charged with assault after he went to his former girlfriends house…. after getting drunk at a local pub…. and assaulted both her and her new boyfriend. This is not the first time that he has been in trouble with the law. He has on another separate occasion been charged with assault… involving the same ex-girlfriend. She had a restraining order against him….. which he violated.

The mayor has vowed that he would return to his mayoral duties…. and is still planning to attend this Monday’s council meeting.

Saturday at City Hall in Port Coquitlam, a group of residents held a petition signing to try to convince the Mayor that he is not welcome as the Mayor of our city anymore. Why the hell should he be? He committed an offense. I have been a victim of spousal abuse.. and I sure as hell do not approve of a man who does the same…. but is allowed to perform as Mayor of the city. Who the hell does this man think he is? Above everyone else? What sort of example does this set? That you can go ahead and beat a woman… but still secure your place as Mayor?

Every single woman who lives in Port Coquitlam should have taken the one minute out of their day to go down to City Hall to sign that petition…. and I sure as hell hope they did.

Recycle Me This…

In this day and age with “global warming” and the state of the environment…. you would think that our community would support recycling. Well not the City of Port Coquitlam.

We live in a townhouse complex that has absolutely no recycling program. I called City Hall’s Engineering and Operations Department to find out about getting a recycling container for our unit. The lady that lives next door to us has one that she leaves outside her unit, so I figured that it wouldn’t be a problem. Occasionally I put some newspapers in her container… but I don’t want to keep using hers as once they are full thats it… the city will not take any extra… so I don’t want to fill her container up.. that just wouldn’t be fair to her. City Hall informed me that they do not supply containers and pick up from most townhouses. I told them that one of the tenants in another unit has a bin and gets hers picked up every week… so they told me to talk to the landlord. But they also informed me that I would most likely not be able to get one. When I called the landlord he told me that he does not know how she got her container but would call to see if he could get a container for us. I have not heard back from him… so I am assuming it didn’t go over to well.

I don’t understand. Wouldn’t the City of Port Coquitlam want the residents to recycle? Do they not give a shit about the environment? Would they rather I throw all of my garbage into our dumpster? I can’t believe that I am having such a problem trying to get a recycling container and pick up service where the service already exists…. I have even offered to pay for one and still no luck. This goes to show that much more awareness is needed when it comes to protecting our planet.

If You Show Your Boobs Off In Public, Apparently You Are Not Allowed To Help Save The Boobs…

Posted in Life, Observations, Politics, Ramblings, Random Thoughts, Rants on February 11, 2007 by taraden

A group of exotic dancers, here in Vancouver, put on a “charity strip-a-thon” to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. They performed free shows to customers at a bar all day, and were planning on donating the $6000 they raised to a breast cancer organization.

Unfortunatley, due to the nature of their occupation, their donatation was turned down by the organization. Apparently, if you take your clothes off for a living you can’t be a part of trying to better the lives of woman who either ARE experiencing the effects of breast cancer, or MAY be effected by the disease later on in life.

Complete bullshit. A donation is a donation. The money was not obtained illegally. The last I heard “exotic entertainment” was still legal here in the city of Vancouver, and for that breast cancer organization not to accept their generous donation…. says alot about their own intentions, in trying to better the lives of women.

China’s Way Of Dealing With Rabies….

Posted in Animals, Crime, Life, Personal, Politics, World on August 3, 2006 by taraden

I was thoroughly disgusted when I opened the newspaper yesterday and came across this story….

beaten-dog.jpg

In Shanghai China 50,000 dogs were beaten to death in an government ordered campaign to try to stop the spread of the Rabies disease.  The only dogs that were spared in this attack were military dogs and police canine units (go figure).  Dogs that were being walked by their owners were taken from them and beaten to death, right there….in front of them.

The last I heard….there is a RABIES VACCINE!!  In fact, my cat, Mister Kitty, just had his Rabies shot last month.  What the hell is wrong with these people?  Why not combat this disease in a safe and humaine way?

Government officials have defended the slaughter of these animals by saying “with the aim to keep this horrible disease from people, we decided to kill the dogs.”

I dont give a shit what they say….this was a completely disgusting and ruthless way of dealing with this problem.  PETA, an animal rights group has asked that people boycott any products from China.  I can’t help but think that with a little planning, a little compasion and some vaccinations…they would have never had to resort to this kind of meaningless violence against these animals.  What is this world coming to?
