Go Canucks…

I don’t usually write a post about the Canucks in fear that I might jinx them… but I had to post this pic, because it is just too cute. He actually watches parts of the games too!  Personally I think it’s the dark uniforms on a white background that catches his attention… and the cheering crowd… but hey, maybe at two months old… he has realized that hockey rules.  It’s possible… isn’t it?  😀

The playoffs are in full swing and I am hoping that Vancouver will take out Dallas tonight. I have really gotten into the playoff’s this year. Don’t get me wrong… I have always been a Canucks fan… but I have been watching all the other teams games as well. While watching a Pittsburgh/Ottawa game the other night I heard the commentator say something about how Pittsburgh had limited the sale of tickets to the game to only the surrounding areas of Pittsburgh in the attempt to rule out any Ottawa fans that may try to get tickets. How the hell is that possible? I didn’t think they could do that… but I guess they can. I have nothing against Pittsburgh or the Penguins but that seems a little “unsportsmanlike” if you ask me.

GO CANUCKS GO!!

Cutest Canucks Fan?

Goodbye To Bert…..

bertuzzi_54839.jpg

The Vancouver Canucks have traded Mr. Todd Bertuzzi to the Florida Panther's in exchange for goaltender Roberto Luongo and Lukas Krajicek. And while Bertuzzi is my favorite Vancouver Canuck…and I was not too pleased with the trade…it seems that Bertuzzi didn't really want to stay here in Vancouver after all. With all the shit that he has been through with the Canucks…I guess he is wanting a change, and really who could blame him. I just hope that the Florida fans treat him with respect…..he is a great player, and he deserves it. The Canucks also traded goaltender Alex Auld and defenseman Bryan Allen….and this has left me a little baffled. Alex Auld was thrown into the season after 1st line goalie, Dan Cloutier was injured and could not play. This goalie played all year for us, and did so quite well I might add….for not really having too much experience…and then they just throw him away…and still keep Cloutier…the goalie who can not seem to play a full season anymore, without getting injured? That doesn't really make sense to me. It will be interesting to see what happens in the near future.

The Edmonton Oilers…..Canada’s Only Hope At Lord Stanley’s Cup…..

Posted in Hockey, Sports on May 18, 2006 by taraden

The Edmonton Oilers shut out San Jose last night 2-0, advancing them further into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.  And while the Edmonton Oilers are not particularly my favorite hockey team (err…. Vancouver Canucks fan here), or even my second favorite team (**cough** Calgary Flames) they are the only Canadian team remaining in the playoffs.

This morning there were reports on the news that hockey fans in Edmonton got a little rowdy last night after the win.  And while it is exciting when your team wins, and there is reason to celebrate…..the is no reason for violence.  Can't everyone just celebrate in a mature manner?  Why must the riot sqwad get called out?  Why do people feel the need to get into fights and beat people up?  This should be a happy time….not a time filled with violence.  This also does not reflect well on the city or on the entire country for that matter.  There are people all over world watching the Stanley Cup Playoff's…..come on people…I know we can show a little more class than that.

GO OILERS!!!!

And Now To The Memorial Cup……

The Vancouver Giants have won the Western Hockey League finals, shutting out The Moose Jaw Warriors with a 4-0 game victory!  What an amazing series for Vancouver,  though it would have been nice for them to win on home ice.   Now it is off the the Memorial Cup in Muncton, New Brunswick in just over a week.

Vancouver’s Other Fabulous Hockey Team…….

Last night Neil took me to go see a Vancouver Giants game. They are playing in the Western Hockey League Finals, against The Moose Jaw Warriors. It was the first game of the series, and Vancouver won 5-1. It was a really good game, and as I have stated before….for a not so expenive night out…..it is a good time, and you get to watch some great hockey.

Of course…as at pretty much any event you go to…..there is never a shortage of drunken idiots. We had an older couple sitting beside us to the left, who were drinking beer the entire game. Close to the end we could tell that the man was quite noticebly inebriated, and was starting to get annoying….yelling out at the top of his lungs…..”let’s kill em’…..squash them like a bug!!” Yeah….okay buddy….we are winning 5-1….and there is like three minutes left in the game….I think they already have. Then when they got up to leave his wife stumbled and tripped into me on their way out the aisle. The three guys who were sitting beside us to our right, said to each other….”okay, I wonder who is driving home?” I told them that we were jsut commenting on the same thing….and the scary thing is is that one of them most likely was going to get behind the wheel and drive home. But in any event it was a good game…..Go Giants Go!!!!
